Her black wings fused with the blackened sky. Now that Ashenshine had soared high enough, she ceased flapping her wings. She glided, silent as an owl, scanning the ground. It didn't take long to spot a young buck against the ashen earth. Her's locked on it and she calculated the distance. Then her wings snapped to her side. She shot downward like an arrow. Within a heart beat she'd dug her claws into it, and at the same moment her wings carried her to the sky. Its neck was then snapped by her teeth. Landing on a tall stone, she tore its flesh. This was a personal hunting trip, so she could eat what she wanted.

Rubyrise was sun basking on a petal she had just completed on the incomplete Ruby Rose. It was hard work, carving the huge gem, but almost the only thing there was to do. Injured in a fight, she had just barely recovered enough to come out.

Swallowing the last chunk of meat, Ashenshine noticed Rubyrise. Leaping from her perch, she glided over to the other dragon. She landed lightly next the Rubyrise and folded her wings to her side. "Hello."

Rubyrise looked up, scowling. Noticing who it was, she put on a nicer face. Although she had an aggressive personality, attention was the thing she loved most. "Hello, how are you doing these days?" She asked nicely.

"I'm doing fine," she replied, studying her claws. After a cat like yawn, she added: "And you?"

Rubyrise flexed her claws. "I'm not as well. Got into a fight a few months ago." She said, pointing to a kink in her tail. She still had some pretty bad scars from the fight, but she was healing.

"What happened?" Ashenshine asked, somewhat more interested. Tilting her head slightly, she studied Rubierise's injury.

Rubyrise happily launched into a story. "I went out to patrol the borders. At the border with EarthGroup, a patrol of dragons jumped on my. I was outnumbered, but fought them off." She said proudly. "I didn't get out uninjured though." She added reluctantly.

Rubyrise nodded. "Soon, I'll be good as new. And then those EarthGroup dragons will wish they were never hatched." She said with a chuckle.

Ashenshine nodded with a smile. "Well, shall we return to camp?" she asked, motioning her claws.

Rubyrise stretched out on the carved rose petal. "I'm going to stay here. I can't do anything else, so I might as well help carve this thing. She said motioning to the giant ruby.

Ashenshine raised her shoulders in a shrug and unfolded her coal black wings. "See you, then." With a rush of wind she rose into the sky and soared off.
